COVID-19 Pandemic Issues

Important Pandemic and Education Related Information

On July 24th, the NC Board of Chiropractic Examiners met and considered modifications that were necessitated by the current COVID pandemic, and under the authority granted by 21 NCAC 10.0216 Waiver.
Please note:

Certified Chiropractic Assistants – 180 Day Rule

For the remainder of 2020, the board will not enforce NCGS 90-143.4 (b) which states:
“Any person employed as a chiropractic clinical assistant shall obtain a certificate of competency from the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners (Board) within 180 days after the person begins employment. Certification shall not be required for employees whose duties are limited to administrative activities of a nonclinical nature. Except as otherwise provided in GS 90-142.1 and this section, it shall be unlawful for any person to practice as a chiropractic clinical assistant unless duly certified by the Board. ”

Certified Chiropractic Radiologic Technologists- Requirement to Pass the CCA Exam Prior to Taking the Radiology Exam

For the remainder of 2020, the board will not enforce the portion of NCAC 10 .0206(b) that requires passing the Certified Clinical Assistant exam prior to taking the radiology technician exam. The rule states:
“After successful completion of the Certification of Clinical Assistants described in 21 NCAC 10 .0213 and completing the education program(c) of this Rule, a person desiring certification as a radiologic technologist shall pass a competency examination administered by or under the authority of the Board. ”
For clarity, the rule remains in force EXCEPT for requiring that the CCA program and exam is completed prior to taking the radiology technician exam.

Doctors of Chiropractic – Continuing Education Requirement

For 2020 AND 2021, the board will keep in place the in-person continuing education requirement described in 21 NCAC 10.0205(c). However, due to factors related to the pandemic, board approved “live online” continuing education hours will be credited toward the in-person requirement for 2020 and 2021.
NOTE: Live online is NOT pre-recorded content and allows for interaction with the instructor .
The remaining requirements are unchanged. The requirements are described in: 21 NCAC 10.0205 (c) and can be found HERE.
